Food and Wines
Umbria is known all over the world for its high-quality products.
La Porchetta
It is probably one of the most ancient dishes that was handed over for centuries from before the Roman period.
Here in Umbria cooking La Porchetta is a real profession passed over by generation to generation and the peculiarity is that every Porchettaro (the person who cooks La Porchetta) has a different ingredient to dress it,
in this way, you won’t find the same taste around.
Lately, due to its unique quality, it has been elected by the New York Times to be one of the five most delicious dishes in the world.
Truffles
Umbria is one of the top producers in the world of this precious mushroom more specifically of the black truffle, called in Italian Tartufo Nero.
Because of its nice and strong taste,
it can turn a simple plate into a unique experience.
The most famous dish in Umbria is Spaghetti or Risotto with Truffle.
There is a museum dedicated only to truffles founded by
Urbani the biggest truffle dealer of the world.
La mozzarella
This is THE teste of Italy, used on pizza and sliced, on Parmigiana cake. But the best way is eaten alone with just a drop of extra-virgin Umbrian oil. The real mozzarella does not need salt because it already should have a salty flavor from the milk itself. It can be of buffalo or cow as long as you buy it and eat it and never put it in the fridge!
At the feet of the hill where both houses are situated, there is a producer that makes excellent mozzarella of buffalo. Otherwise, we recommend driving to the next town, in Amelia, just a few minutes away to try the cow mozzarella round, in knots, or braided.
Zanchi wine celler
Zanchi is a well-known wine producer that for more than 50 years has selected and harvested peculiar grapevines in the Umbrian hills.
Low yield per vine, harvested by hand, and minimal intervention in winemaking are part of a sustainable production run entirely in the estate, from the vine to the bottle.
The winery is situated just a few kilometers from our villas and guided tours of the vineyard and cellars are offered to learn the production of their unique wine.
The beautiful experience ends with an interesting degustation of the wine and their grappa accompanied by delicious typical Umbrian food.
